The North End is a working class area of Preston, Lancashire. It has been home to the Fylde Coast’s first football team since 1879 and today it is one of English football’s most successful clubs with three Football League titles and four Manager of the Year awards under its belt.
The “liverpool vs preston” is a football match that will take place on Saturday, September 16th. Preston North End are the home team and Liverpool are the away team.
In all competitions, Liverpool is undefeated in 23 games.
Liverpool advanced to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals thanks to goals from Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi in the second half against a stubborn Preston North End team at Deepdale.
Minamino, who scored twice in his side’s 3-0 victory against Norwich City in the previous round, converted beautifully from Neco Williams’ cross after 62 minutes to put an end to the Championship outfit’s tenacious fight.
With six minutes left, Origi, who had also scored in the previous round, struck a magnificent improvised finish with his heel to put the victory beyond question.
Despite controlling possession for lengthy periods, Preston fashioned the greatest first-half chances. Jurgen Klopp chose an altogether different Liverpool team from the one that smashed Manchester United 5-0 on Sunday.
Preston began cautiously, hoping to cause a major shock and reach their first league cup quarter-final, but they soon carved out several opportunities, the greatest of which came after 28 minutes.
Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian made a fantastic save to deny Sean Maguire, and then Ryan Ledson’s goal-bound follow-up was blocked by Williams, and Brad Potts blasted over in a spectacular goalmouth scramble.
As Frankie McAvoy’s side attacked on the break, Tom Barkhuizen and Ledson both failed to reach the goal in strong situations, while Potts was unable to lift his shot over Adrian.
Liverpool’s flat and generally disorganized squad failed to record a shot on target before the half, which was somewhat unsurprising considering the alterations, and struggled to re-ignite after the break as well.
Jurgen Klopp then introduced right-back Conor Bradley, who pushed Williams forward, and the switch worked.
Prior to Minamino’s opening, Alex Oxlade-off-target Chamberlain’s effort from the outside of the box was the closest the visitors had come.
After being set up by Williams, Origi flicked home from close range with a beautiful improvised finish as the Reds sealed their spot in the quarter-final draw, which will take place at 10:30 BST on Saturday, October 30.
“We didn’t play well, that’s how it is,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said. We got off to a good start, but then we totally lost our framework, which was the issue. We were too animated, too eager to get our hands on the ball.
“We can play better as a team, but there were a few standout individual performances. It’s all about progressing to the next round, and that’s exactly what we achieved. With 11 changes, it was obvious that it would be challenging.”
“I think our game plan was outstanding; we gave Liverpool issues on the counter,” Preston boss Frankie McAvoy said. In the first half, we had the greatest opportunities, and I don’t believe Liverpool managed to penetrate us at all.
“We made nine changes, but the differences between our players are little; it’s a case of razor-thin margins. You may make mistakes, but I believe the men that were chosen today did us well.”
