Atascadero is hosting the first art wine and brew tour of 2021 as part of a drive to generate revenue from tourism. The city has been one of Southern California’s most sought-after destinations for artists since it was founded in 1858.

Atascadero shows up to support local businesses in the downtown area.
ATASCADERO — ATASCADERO — ATASCADERO — Atascadero’s Downtown businesses took part in the inaugural Art, Wine, and Brew Tour of 2021 on Friday evening. Patrons sampled wine, beer, juice, and other goodies as they drank and shopped their way around downtown shops, admiring stunning artwork and sampling wine, beer, juice, and other treats.
On the day of the event, participants collected their wine glasses and wristbands from the front steps of Historic City Hall. They were allowed to use them beginning at 5:30 p.m. to sample wine, beer, coffee, and cider from around 15-20 local companies.
Each local company collaborated with a nearby vineyard, brewery, or cidery, as well as an artist whose work was displayed in the shop. The event is a favorite among Downtown merchants, and it did not disappoint on Friday!

Even before the event, Amy Einolander, owner of Juice Boss, claimed the Downtown was humming. By 4:00 p.m., she had sold out of juice and had to start producing more for the occasion. To ensure that everyone stayed hydrated, Einolander prepared her “Melonhead” watermelon juice and gave it out to everyone passing by.
“This is my first time doing it,” Einolander added, “and I’m very happy I’m doing it.” It’s great to go out as a community and support each other by walking about, having delicious beverages, shopping, and supporting each other’s businesses. That is the most essential thing these days, since without each other, we wouldn’t be here.”
The underlying thread that ran through all of the participating companies was a strong feeling of community and the necessity of helping one another.
“Having Hoyt here since I know them has been very exciting for me,” said Roxy Bragg of Indigo Clothing, which collaborated with Hoyt Family Vineyards and featured paintings by Burch for the event. “It’s a lot of fun!” It’s amusing to watch everyone’s expressions. As a newer business on the block, it means a lot to me in terms of visibility. This is my first year in this particular place. When I was in my previous location, I only participated in the event once before COVID, and my company was only a week old at the time. So it’s all about exposure for me. Aside from that, it’s simply plain fun! It’s a lot of joy for me to be able to show off my friend’s work and have Hoyt flowing!”
Bloke and Farron Elizabeth owner Farron Walker agreed that visibility is crucial for small companies, since her newest store, Bloke, debuted right in the midst of the lockdown.
“It’s bringing people in from as far as Paso and Templeton, a lot of new people who don’t usually visit the area, and this year we have so many new companies that have opened in the last year, so it’s wonderful for the community to be able to check out all of the new businesses for the first time.” That’s critical since others may be unaware of what’s going on.”
Mayor Heather Moreno was among the numerous community members who came out to express their support for our local businesses.
“This is something that we’ve done in Atascadero for a long time,” Moreno added. “After the lockdown and everything, I think everyone is eager to go back to some sort of normal and appreciate seeing people and being outside—we have beautiful weather for it—so this is just a typical Atascadero Downtown event where the community gets together.”
It was really wonderful to watch the community come together to support local companies, to see local businesses collaborate and support one another, and to be in the middle of a busy throng of smiling faces and happy discussion.
“Things happen when people join together,” Mayor Moreno may have summed it up best.
